  • Dr.
    Scott Gordon

    Dr Scott Gordon was raised in Americus, Kansas where he helped his father farm.  While attending Northern Heights High School, he began riding with Dr. Bryan Barr, DVM.  After graduating from NHHS, he attended Kansas State University.  He earned his B.S in Animal Science in 1998 and his DVM from Kansas State in 1990.

    In 1990, Dr. Gordon joined Emporia Veterinary Hospital as a veterinarian.  He became a partner with Dr. Barr and Dr. Duane Henrikson.  As they retired, Dr Gordon increased his ownership of the practice.  He is now a partner with Dr. Richard Mendoza.

    Dr. Gordon has a strong interest in large animal production medicine, but he also enjoys the challenges of small animal medicine and surgery.

    Dr. Gordon and his wife, Rhonda (Fowler) Gordon have 3 children, Austin, Kelsey and Megan.  In his spare time, he enjoys attending his children's many sporting activities and officiating football games.  He continues his many years of being a Flint Hills Beef Fest Committee member, of which he has served as a past president.  He continues to farm with his son.

  • Dr.
    Richard Mendoza

    Dr. Richard Mendoza was born and raised in Mcpherson, Kansas.  He graduated Mcpherson High School and then attended Kansas State University for both a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.  After graduation in 2004, Dr. Mendoza headed to Emporia and has been here since.  He became a partner in 2013. 

    Dr. Mendoza enjoys many aspects of Veterinary Medicine.  Most of his day is filled with small animal medicine and surgery, but also is available for cattle and horse work as well as exotics.  Currently Dr. Mendoza is the veterinarian for the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia and is a member of the Animal Care and Use Committee for Emporia State University.       

    In his spare time, Dr. Mendoza enjoys spending time with his children, Emma and Daniel, and his wife, Amanda.  The kids keep them both busy with 4-H activities and sports.  He also enjoys wood working, gardening and traveling with the family.

  • Vicki Nielsen-Jones
    RVT

    Vicki Nielsen-Jones, RVT was raised in the Americus area.  She graduated from Emporia High School.  She then went on to Colby Community College to study Animal Hospital Technology.  She graduated with her degree and passed state boards, becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician, in 1986.  She began working at Emporia Veterinary Hospital shortly after graduation. Vicki enjoys working with all types of animal except snakes!       

    Vicki and her husband, David, live near Americus.  They have several cats, an Australian Shepherd, a Red Heeler, chickens, a horse and a few Black Angus cows. 

  • Michele Schubarth
    RVT

    Michele Schubarth, RVT, is a native of Emporia.  After graduating from Emporia High School, she went to Emporia State University for a year where she took her general education classes.  She then went to Maple Woods Community College where she earned her Associates of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology.  She has been with Emporia Veterinary Hospital since graduating in 2002.

    She has 2 dogs, a cat, an Arabian and a Miniature horse.  Michele loves nature and being outdoors.  In her spare time she like to travel and hike with her fiance, Troy.

  • Debbie Arndt

    Debbie Arndt has worked for Emporia Veterinary Hospital since 1983 as a groomer and receptionist.  She enjoys working with all animals, but especially dogs and horses. 

    Debbie is married and has one son.  Included in her family is a Miniature Australian Shepherd named Ellie.  Debbie and her husband, Tom, run a horse boarding facility.

  • Denise

    Denise has always had a passion for animals, even as a young child growing up in California.  She lived in California for 12 years before moving to Emporia, Kansas.  She graduated from Emporia High School.

    Denise has worked at Emporia Veterinary Hospital since 2011, a job she describes as 'meant to be'.  The experience has given her basic care skills for animals, including her Boston Terrier, Kovu.  She developed bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills, thanks to her family.  A skill she is able to use every day in her job as a receptionist.
